In April of 2018 Deion (my son) moved out of our house and I have not had ice cream in my freezer since then. I have had 1 small milkshake and one small slice of ice cream cake but neither of them were worth the calories. For anyone who doesn’t know me, I love ice cream. I used to eat a bowl every night.

Then I joined 13 Stripes CrossFit in August because I wanted to work out and get healthier. I changed my eating. I started eating whole grains and more vegetables and more lean protein.

In January I gave up eating cheese. Cut it out of my diet. I love cheese so much but it was my kryptonite and doing more damage than good. I’ve had small controlled amounts of cheese since then but, again, it’s not worth the calories so I would rather go without and learn substitutions.

Not only did I start moving; I changed my eating, I made hard decisions and sacrifices, I decided that I was worth more than that big greasy cheeseburger and plate of French fries. I wanted to feel better and healthier and happier with me.

It hasn’t been easy and there are days I want to give up… but then things happen that validate your journey.

That came two fold for me tonight.

1. I did 3 sets each of 10 power snatches and 12 bar facing burpees in 9 minutes and 14 seconds.

2. Stacey and Cara told me I was tiny and praised me for how I look. For someone like me who was picked on for my weight… they will never understand how much their words meant and I thank them.

All it takes is one person to change how you feel and how you view yourself. That person is YOU. It’s not easy but it’s so incredibly worth it
